Design Associated Collegiate Press seventh place infographic Before I could create this graphic, the sports editor had to compile a hard copy of the different points on the basketball court where MSU players shot 3-point’s throughout the season. With such a large section of this graphic taken up by the court itself, I wanted to pack as many statistics about 3-point shots in this graphic as possible, without making it overwhelming. When creating this graphic, I realized this was lacking the official athletic font. I felt that the design would not be complete without it, so I had to reach out to the creator of the font and gain permission before printing. Prior to the 2016 Presidential Election, I created an infographic explaining the equal pay issue, breaking it down by gender, state and presidential candidates. For an infographic’s course, I chose to create an infographic on Multiple Sclerosis because my father has the disease and I wanted to better understand, and help other family and friends understand, what he goes through on a daily basis. Convergen Energy, a client of Martin Waymire, switched their name and wanted to spread the word about what exactly they do. In this infographic, I broke down the process of how and why Convergen Energy creates renewable energy using recycled materials. During our coverage of the Michigan Primary Elections, our staff came up with the idea to conceptualize the different parties as the “Rock ’em, Sock ’em” robots. My intention was to create a visually appealing and engaging cover that differs from a standard photo of the front-running candidates. My vision for this cover was to create an image of a brain scan that was visually appealing. The story that belonged with this cover focused on new research behind concussions for athletes. The spin on the story was that these brain imperfections, caused by concussions, do not show up on brain scans. This is what I wanted to show in my illustration. During my first semester as a graphic designer at The State News, we started creating infographics for football pre and post games, showing season stats of both teams, game stats, and any interesting facts we thought the reader would be interested in. This was an assignment that was usually delegated to me. This specific infographic followed after Michigan State beat University of Michigan in 2015. I constantly created graphics to post to Martin Waymire’s social media to stay present on social media. I did this for a variety of different holidays and events, including National Dog Day. The above two graphics are from Michigan Retailers Association’s Buy Nearby campaign, which is a client of Martin Waymire’s. On a planned social calendar, we mapped out different holidays that the audience could relate to and created engaging social graphics to stop their thumbs from scrolling through news feeds. For our final survival guide issue, I created a color page with original illustrations. This infographic followed MSU’s victory over Central Michigan University in 2015. To welcome in the basketball season, I created this infographic contrasting stats between the men and women teams. Prior to the 2016 Presidential Election, I created an infographic explaining the how both the presidential candidates, Trump and Clinton, felt about gender related issues. Michigan Association of Health Plans, one of Martin Waymire’s clients, created a foundation that focuses on charitable givings of their health plan members. I created an infographic to demonstrate the efforts the organization generated during 2015. This infographic ran after MSU beat Maryland in 2015 and showed stats from both teams. For this football infographic, I wanted to play with the background photo and change it up a bit. By cutting out part of his hand and overlapping them on the original photo, I was able to use Shilique Calhoun’s finger as a 1 for B1G (Big Ten conference). The cover story for this issue of The State News was about sexual assault and how MSU’s has failed and dealing with reports. With this being such a sensitive subject, I had to be careful about how this image would be portrayed. I thought of this story as shining a light on MSU’s misconduct, so that’s why I chose to do a spotlight showing a powerful quote from the story. Time line of Michigan State’s football season history during their 2015-16 season. This was an illustration I created for the graduation guide issue.
